Abstract (en)

An information film carrier for protection of articles and documents from counterfeiting and copying is a polymer structure (21) consisting of at least one polymer material layer, in which structure at least one layer is made with through-holes (24) and/or recesses (25). Dimensions of those recesses and holes on the carrier surface are of 0.001 to 20 micrometers. These recesses and/or holes may be filled with various materials. Information carrier may have concealed and visible macro- and micro-pattern which is created by irradiating the polymer film with a heavy ion stream, thereafter exposing the irradiated film to an ultraviolet radiation, and etching the polymer film in a solvent. An apparatus for producing such carrier comprises, arranged in series, a heavy ion source (36), a heavy ion stream forming system (37), an ionguide (38), and a target (40) which is converted into the information carrier. A space amplitude modulation unit (41) is made in the form of a matrix (42) of plates (43) and connected to a plate rotation and/or motion driver (44) which is connected via a control unit (46) to a target motion unit (45). <IMAGE>
