[origin: WO9739032A1] Methods for increasing the level of free, biologically active proteins, including insulin-like growth factors, and for treating IGF-responsive conditions are provided. The methods generally comprise administering one or more ligand inhibitors that inhibit the binding of the protein to one or more insulin-like growth factor binding proteins. Suitable ligand inhibitors include analogs of IGF-I or IGF-II and small molecule inhibitors.
