The central area (8) has a slot (11), the width of which corresponds to the maximum permitted thickness of the document stack (17). The lower area (9) has a hollow formation (12) open in the direction of the slot of the central area. The slot of the central area narrows in the direction of the upper area (7). the minimal width of the slot defines the maximum allowed thickness of the document stack (17). The diameter of the hollow formation (12) of the lower area has a greater width and diameter than the maximum width of the slot (11). The device is an integral part of the shredder.
