[origin: EP0855282A2] The printing system has a printing mechanism for printing input text on an imaging receiving medium while the medium passes the printing mechanism. The system also has a display (108) for displaying the text to be printed together with an image of the receiving medium on which the text is to be printed. The system has an input unit(56) for inputting text data which defines the characters forming the text. Also input are text format data which define the format of the text relative to the medium, and image orienting data to define the orientation of the image relative to the medium. A memory (104) stores the text data, text format data and image orientation data. The system also has a processor (100) connected to the input unit to receive the data and store it in the memory (104). The processor (100) is operated such that it controls the display to display the image. The processor (100) can be operated to rotate the image on the display according to the orientation data and to transmit the print data to the print mechanism.
