[origin: EP0855361A1] The mast (7,8,9), which can rotate on its base about an axis (3), supports a normal jib (10) and counter weights (4). Each mast element has slipper surfaces disposed at 2 , 4, 8 and 10 o'clock on the flat outside and inside faces of the mast as seen in plan view. At the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, which are aligned with the jib of the crane, are mechanisms providing positive locking between the extended mast elements. As the mast is extended or shortened, the slippers on the sections being suitably coated allow smooth movement.
