[origin: DE19538407A1] The invention concerns a cast light metal piston of box-type construction for a two-stroke engine having optimum values as concerns casting properties, piston cooling, weight reduction, low noise and mixture transfer. To this end, the piston according to the invention comprises a combination of the following features: the piston blank comprises only one lug in the region of one piston shaft side (3); the wall section (6) connecting the piston shaft (3) to the gudgeon-pin boss (4) has a window-like recess (8) on the lug side; the wall section (7) connecting the piston shaft (3) to the gudgeon-pin boss (4) and remote from the lug side is closed; and the closed wall section (7) is raised upwards (10) relative to the shaft length from the open shaft end (9).
