Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9731154A1] The invention concerns a railway track comprising a ballast bed (10), sleepers (12) disposed on the ballast bed, and rails (14) secured to the sleepers. The sleepers are disposed closely adjacent one another but in contactless manner such that a gap is left free. The sleepers define water-evacuation channels (134) extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of the track, in order to lead water away laterally. The gaps between the sleepers can be covered by covering elements (142) or the sleepers can overlap one another in contactless manner. In this way, the track bed is maintained substantially free from water, the positional stability of the track is increased, and hence the amount of maintenance work required, such as packing, cleaning and removal of weeds is reduced or rendered superfluous.
