[origin: WO9715730A1] The invention relates to a road sweeping machine (1) having a chassis (2) with unguided rear wheels (3) and guided front wheels (4), having an engine (5) arranged substantially above and driving the rear wheels (3), having a seat (9) adjacent the engine (5) and having a sweeping roller (10) arranged on the underside of the chassis (2) between the front and rear wheels and at right angles to the direction of travel, and having a dirt collector (11). The object of the invention is to construct the road sweeping machine in such a manner that it is compact and structurally simple, and demonstrates a good sweeping action when there is a low amount of dust. The object is attained in that the dirt collector (11) is arranged between the front wheels and the rear wheels and adjacent the sweeping roller and is connected by way of a suction line (13) to a suction unit (14), and the engine (5) is arranged with a substantially vertical drive shaft which protrudes from the motor at the top (6) and the bottom (7), and the section protruding at the top drives the suction unit (14) while the section protruding at the bottom drives the rear wheels (3) and the sweeping roller (10).
