[origin: WO9804870A1] The invention relates to a sheathed element glow plug for arrangement in the combustion chamber of an air-compression internal combustion engine with a plug shell, a connection member for the glow current and with a tube fastened to said plug shell and closed at the end thereof facing away from the plug shell. A wire filament arrangement embedded in insulating material is positioned in the tube part used as the glow element and projecting from the plug shell. The plug shell (11) comprises two sections and, depending on the desired overall length of the sheathed element glow plug, an intermediate member (23) of selectable length is provided which connects a first part (21) and a second part (22) of the plug shell (11) with each other.
