[origin: EP0857677A1] An apparatus to unwind a roll (1) of material (12), with a self-adhesive coating on one side, has two holders (2) each with a recess (21) to hold the roll (1), to give a sliding guide for the roll (1) between them. A powered take-off roller (5), with an elastic foam mantle (52), is positioned to draw out the wound material (12) by contact with its non-adhesive side. The sliding guide for the roll (1) is held in direct contact with the take-off roller (5), across the whole roll (1) width.
