[origin: EP0857819A2] The blanket press unit (1), to extract water from a web of wet pulp in a papermaking or cardboard production machine, uses a fluid to cool the press mantle (11) which is supported (9) at the press gap (4). The fluid (12) which has been heated through the cooling action on the mantle (11) is mostly or wholly detached from it at the scraper point, before cooled fluid (12') is applied to the press mantle (11) after the scraper point, to prevent the heated fluid (12) mixing with the prepared cool fluid (12'). Also claimed is an apparatus with a scraper (13) to detach the fluid (12) with a raised temperature from the cooling action on the press mantle (11), with total fluid removal. It is directly in front of the fluid feed (18), so that the hot fluid (12) does not mix with the new cool fluid (12').
