[origin: EP0857855A1] A downhole directional measurement system to determine an inclination angle θ of a wellbore at a point in either a definable vicinity of the wellbore bottom or in a projected path of the wellbore. The system comprises: a first inclinometer (39) for measuring an inclination angle alpha , and producing an output signal indicative thereof, and a second inclinometer (80) for measuring an inclination angle beta , and producing an output signal indicative thereof. The system is capable of determining the inclination angle θ of the wellbore by extrapolation based upon said inclination angle alpha and said inclination angle beta . <IMAGE>
