Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9714463A1] An oxygen conserving device (10) includes an inlet (26) that communicates with a source of oxygen. An outlet (28) selectively receives a pulsed oxygen flow or continuous flow, depending on the mode of operation of the device. A lever (30) allows manual switching between the continuous flow mode and the pulse mode. A valve (42) is normally closed to prevent communication between the inlet and outlet. The outlet communicates with the mass flow sensor (46) so that a signal is sent to a printed circuit board upon detection of inhalation, which then controls energization of the valve to allow communication between the inlet and outlet for a predetermined period of time, preferably on the order of one second.
