Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9717106A1] The proposed winch (8) has a drive roller (11) and a guide roller (10) and a second guide element, preferably a second roller (12). A rope which is led between the guide rollers (10, 12) forms a loop (25) around the drive roller (11). The drive roller (11) can slide towards the guide roller (10). When a rope end (2, 13) is pulled, the rope is forced by the first guide roller (12) against the drive roller (11) to produce a strong working connection by friction which is preferably further enhanced by a peripheral V-shaped groove (22). The flanks of the groove (22) will advantageously have in addition an uneven surface, further improving the coupling between the drive roller (11) and rope (25). An appropriate arrangement of the guide rollers (10, 12) can ensure optimal wrap around the drive roller (11). A preferred use of the winch (8) is with rope hoisting and lowering devices, in particular when lifting heavy loads or persons.
