[origin: DE19544445A1] The invention concerns the improvement of the control behaviour of an anti-lock braking system for off-road vehicles. The control system is designed such that, at a vehicle reference speed (VREF) below a predetermined speed limit (vG), it is only when one wheel of an axle has locked that the anti-lock braking system is applied for the second wheel of the axle. Therefore, in principle, one wheel of an axle is allowed to lock at this low speed. On the other hand, the control system can be designed such that a special control mode is activated when "off-road travel" and a low vehicle speed are detected.
