Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9717085A2] A method is provided for inhibiting the attachment of H. influenzae to human cells, such as pharyngeal cells, by contacting the bacilli with phosphorylated recombinant human beta -casein that have at least 3 phosphate groups. A product containing phosphorylated recombinant human beta -casein may be a liquid enteral nutritional product such as infant formula. The enteral nutritional product may be used for the prevention and treatment of otitis media in infants. The phosphorylated recombinant human beta -casein may also be administered as a throat spray or used in nose drops or a spray.
