[origin: WO9714466A1] A multi-layer guiding catheter for use in PTCA procedures is disclosed. The catheter exhibits a flexural stiffness gradation along the length of the catheter by connecting elongated segments of progressively lower flexural stiffness from the proximal to the distal end of the catheter. The elongated segments are connected together with preferably four tongue-in-groove interlocks at each junction of the elongated segments. The interlocks are bonded together with a transition segment which occupies the interstices of the tongue and the groove of each interlock.
