Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0863256A2] A filler for a cavity (7,8) along a rail flange (5) consists of a recycled rubbery elastic material bonded together with polyurethane. The filler (10,20) has a wedge-shaped rectangular cross-section, three sides of which follow the rail surface between the rail head (2) and foot (6) and recesses for fastening to the rail (1). A slot (15,25) along the rail facing side (13,23) separates two sprung ribs (16,17;26,27) which spring outward to press against the rail surface when the slightly oversized filler is pressed into the cavity. Also claimed is an installation method for the filler which involves placing two fillers, one in each cavity on opposite sides of the rail flange, and pushing each into the respective chamber with a clamp fitting over the rail. After inserting the fillers the clamp is released and moved along the rail to repeat the action until all fillers have been inserted. Also claimed is installation equipment for the filler, comprising a clamp with a holder for an air cylinder with piston and a housing and two opposing pressure pads. The holder is connected at one end with the housing and at the other end to one pressure pad. the second pressure pad is connected to the piston. A swivelling arm carrying the clamp is operated by a control unit which also activates the pressure pads.
