Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0867891A1] A data transmission cable consists of at least one electrical conductor (12, 14) surrounded by a screen to protect from high frequency electromagnetic interference. The screen consists of an inner strip (16) with a layer (22) of a conducting material, and an outer strip (18) with a conducting layer (32) covered by an insulating layer (30). The conducting layer of the outer strip (18) faces inwards, so that the conducting layers of the two strips are applied against one another, and at least one of the two strips has overlapping edges. The insulating layer of the outer strip is stuck to the inner surface of the cable's outer sleeve (42). The adhesion is carried out during extrusion of the outer sleeve, when the polyester insulating layer of the outer strip is softened sufficiently for it to adhere to the inner surface of the sleeve. Also claimed is a method of manufacturing the cable. The cable is efficient at very high frequencies, typically above 100 MHz, and is protected at up to at least 500 MHz.
