[origin: WO9722522A1] An apparatus for automatically transferring valved bags (2) arranged in a stack (1) to a machine for filling the bags with a flowable material. The apparatus comprises means (3, 60) for picking up one bag (2) at a time from a stack (1); a conveyor (4) with a plurality of receivers (5) adapted to receive a bag (2) removed from the stack (1) by said picking means (3) and a first transfer device (6) and a second transfer device (7) for transferring the bag (2) to a filling machine with the proper orientation for being filled. The picking means (60) can comprise suction cup members (62) permanently communicating with a space (66) maintained at a pressure lower than the atmospheric pressure.
