The lock mechanism comprises a housing (3) containing a lengthwise sliding mechanism (4a) with a bolt holder (4), an actuator (5), and two catches (7,8) fitted to opposite ends of the housing, so it can be engaged with an aperture in the door or window. At least the first (7) of the catches has a section which can retract elastically into the housing against the effort of a spring (29). This allows it to pass through the door or window aperture and engage with its edge (12) to hold the housing in place. The retracting section has a sloping surface (23) which slides against the edge of the opening when the housing is pressed against it, and a shoulder which engages with the edge of the opening once the housing is in the correct position.

Deux organes de fixation (7, 8) sont adaptés respectivement à être mis en place à une extrémité correspondante (9, 10) du boîtier (3) et à être insérés avec le boîtier (3) à l'intérieur d'une lumière (11) de l'ouvrant (2). Un premier organe de fixation (7) comporte une partie au moins adaptée à s'effacer de façon élastique dans la direction longitudinale (18) du boîtier (3) dans le sens (21) vers le centre du boîtier (3) pour permettre son passage à travers la lumière (11) de l'ouvrant (2), et à revenir de façon élastique dans l'autre sens (22) pour venir en prise avec le chant correspondant (12) de la lumière (11). <IMAGE>
