Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0869538A1] A novel d.c. short arc lamp has an asymmetrical bulb shape in which the inner wall (3) is wider around the anode (4) than around the cathode (5). Preferably, the ratio between the anode-half surface area and the cathode-half surface area is 1.1-1.5, exclusive, and the power per unit arc length (6) is greater than 80 W/mm. The lamp filling preferably contains cadmium and/or zinc in addition to an ignition gas, mercury and a halogen. Also claimed is a projection system with a projection lamp as described above.
