[origin: WO9641332A1] An improved tuning system for use in connection with stringed instruments (30) is provided. The improved tuning system includes improved strings and methods of manufacturing such strings. It may also include a tuning mechanism for obtaining at least harmonic tuning of the strings by causing pivotable movement of bridge critical contact surfaces (94) so that a desired distance between the bridge critical contact surfaces (94) and the nut (38) of the stringed instrument is obtained. In a preferred embodiment, the instrument includes a tuning mechanism for obtaining substantially simultaneous harmonic and pitch tuning.
