Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0872412A1] The ventilator for a ship's cabin (2) comprises an air intake (3) on the bridge (4) of the ship over an aperture (5) equipped with a shutter mechanism (6) with a seat (7) and a spring-loaded shutter (8). The shutter is held open by a spring (9) and closes automatically when water enters the air intake by the weight of the water collecting in a temporary holder (10). The holder has a series of holes (11) round its outer edge adjacent to the upper surface of the shutter so that it empties progressively and controls the opening of the shutter. The shutter can also be operated from inside the cabin by a control rod (16a) and handle (16b).
