[origin: EP0872585A1] A dobby loom has a weaving section (1) and a heald shaft section (2) which can be linked by a mechanical transmission coupling (3) so that in the coupled state there is a common drive chain from the main drive (5). There is an auxiliary drive (6) for the heald shaft section. At least one sensor (7,8) which measures the actual driving torque between the weaving section and the heald shaft section is arranged between the sections or at the adjoining end of the sections. The sensor (7,8) is connected to a controller (9) which adjusts the auxiliary drive (6) so that the torque and/or any speed variations are reduced.
