[origin: EP0872592A2] An apparatus is for treating a fibrous, in particular paper or cardboard, web (10) which, alone or together with at least one supporting belt (14) like a dewatering, compression or wire cloth belt, is led over at least one moving or stationary surface (16). On the web side facing away from the surface is at least one sealing device (20) for stripping off any air boundary layer entrained by web or support belt and comprising a flat or at least partially curved sealing plate (22) which can be pressed against web or support belt preferably by being formed elastically or flexibly sprung.
