[origin: WO9816458A1] The invention relates to a spooling machine winding a continuously running thread onto a spool. The thread (2) is thus guided back and forth along a cross-winding traverse by a cross-winding device, alternating between a guiding edge (28) of a main guide (8) and a counter guiding edge (29) of an auxiliary guide (9) located in the traverse end areas. The guiding edge of the main guide and the counter guiding edge of the auxiliary guide penetrate the cross-winding plane in an opposite direction. The auxiliary guide can be moved across the cross-winding plane (21) so that the counter guiding edge (29) of the auxiliary guide penetrates the cross-winding plane to a lesser extent or not at all.
