[origin: EP0873792A2] The sorter comprises a container (1) with a processing chamber (12) whose base has several outlet openings for a fluid flow medium. A first conveyor (16) moves along the base (4) from the material pick-up (14) to the first discharge outlet (15) for heavier fractions whilst the second discharge outlet for lighter fractions is allotted a motor-driven cleaning device with at least one clearing element which acts in the processing chamber occupied by the flow medium solely in the layer of lightweight fractions to remove same. In plan view the container is rectangular or square and/or is shaped so that at the material pick-up the material is spread out across the width and/or at the discharge outlet for the heavier fractions the material is brought together across the width.
