Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9726040A1] There is disclosed a probe for facilitating the execution, as an endoscopy, of a haemostatis (sclerosis or binding of varices) in case of bleeding varices of the oesophagus, which is the predominant cause of death for cirrhotic patients. The probe which may be controlled by an operator other than the operator who manages the endoscopy allows the operating area to be isolated from the gastric cavity and the proximal end of the oesophagus by inflating two pneumatic bladders. This allows the operation to be executed in several more favourable circumstances: easier cleaning of the operating area from the considerable quantity of blood through the suction channel which the device is provided with; blocking of the reflux of the blood from the stomach to the oesophagus; prevention of the reflux of the blood to the upper respiratory tract and reduction of ab ingestis pneumonias; more effective suction of the blood in the gastric cavity; and keeping of a desired pressure in the operating area.
