Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0876937A1] The invention relates to a crash locking system (1) for use especially with folding backrests in motor vehicles. Said backrest (2) can be detachably locked to the inner walls of the motor vehicle with its top free side sections and has at least one retaining bar (3) for supporting it. Said retaining bar is attached to the vehicle floor (5) by means of a pedestal (4) or such like and together with the backrest (2) can be pivoted in an articulated manner in relation to said pedestal (4). The retaining bar (3) is also mounted in an articulated manner on a lever (7) by means of a first swivel pin (6) and said lever (7) is connected in an articulated manner with the pedestal (4) by means of a second swivel pin (9). The backrest (2) is simply and reliably prevented from folding back involuntarily by the fact that the lever (7) engages an end stop (11) and is thus held in its resting position, and that a crash end stop (11') is provided for on the pedestal (4), the retaining bar (3) and the backrest (2) being able to swivel past said crash end stop during normal operations. The second swivel pin is arranged in such a way that when the lever (7) is pivoted around the second swivel pin, the first swivel pin is displaced downwards with the retaining bar (3) in such a way that the retaining bar (3) impacts against the crash end-stop.
