Abstract (en)
An electrophotographic image forming apparatus reduces the formation of a background image. The apparatus includes a photosensitive drum (18), developing roller (22) rotating in contact with the photosensitive drum, for providing selected portions of the surface of the photosensitive drum with toner; and a power supply for applying a voltage (voc) to the photosensitive drum so that a surface potential of the photosensitive drum is maintained at a potential relative to that of the developing roller so that the toner tends to remain on the developing roller as the drum rotates with the roller. Preferably, a negative voltage is applied to the ground plate (186), only while the charge position on the photosensitive drum rotates to reach the developing position. <IMAGE>
