[origin: DE19631019A1] The unit is provided with at least two open dies (17,18,21,22) and a drive (7) for moving the dies from an open setting to a final pressure setting, under hydraulic power. In the region of the dies, at least one pick-up (36-42) is provided for detecting the final pressure setting of the dies. An indicating unit (43) is allocated to the pick-up, and produces an indicated signal visible from the outside, with the reaching or falling short of the final pressing setting. The indicating unit produces an optically visible signal. The pick-up has a sensing unit, producing an electrical signal. The indicating unit has a light, electrically connected with the sensing unit. The indicating unit has a mechanical indicator.
