[origin: EP0879564A1] The tobacco strand (11) is laid on cigarette paper (12) on a forming belt (15) and is formed into a cigarette strand. In the region of the forming bed (19), heat is extracted by increasing the surface area and/or the use of material with good thermal conductivity. Also claimed is an arrangement for carrying out the method in which a forming belt (15) passes through a forming bed and moves over an intermediate layer (21) which removes heat. The intermediate layer is preferably a compensating belt of spring steel which is driven at slower speed than the forming belt to produce friction.
