[origin: EP0879568A2] Tongue (7) of a boot with a high leg (5), such as a climbing or walking boot, extends from the front instep part (11) of the boot at least to the instep arch region (13), in which it has a flat region (23) that is softer than the adjacent areas, providing greater flexibility in this region. Preferably, the region giving flexibility is located at a distance from the shin-end edge (21) of the tongue, where the zone adjacent to the edge is relatively stiff. The flexibility region may extend only over hot a the width of the tongue and is asymmetric with respect to the centre line of the tongue.
