[origin: EP0881616A1] The indicator light has a housing and a light up display surface for optically displaying rescue symbols. The display surface is formed of several light diodes. The diodes can be controlled by a control device (38) for variable display of the symbols. The display surface has three adjacent regions each with respective inner diodes for emitting light of a first colour. The inner light diodes are surrounded by outer diodes for emitting light of another colour. The inner diodes in the middle of the three regions are arranged to depict arrows with different directions. The diodes in the two outer regions are arranged to display a rectangle and a pictorial person pointing left or right.
