[origin: GB2310380A] A water treatment apparatus for ponds, aquariums etc. comprises a water tight container 2 having an inlet 6 with mouth 8 and an outlet. Mounted adjacent to the mouth 8 is an elongate collection bag 10 to remove solids from the water. The inlet aperture 12 of the collection bag 10 is spaced from the mouth 8 of the inlet pipe 6 by spacer elements 14 to leave a gap 15. When the pores of the bag become blocked the flow F is able to by-pass the collection bag 10 and instead flow through the gap 15 onto the subsequent filtration stages before being returned to the pond. The bag 10 is removable and is manufactured from a woven polymeric mesh material. In an alternative embodiment the bag is replaced by a trough (FIG 2). The subsequent filtration stages consist of brush filters 16 and adjacent these are foam filter elements 18. This is then followed by a biological filtering stage consisting of plastics bio media.
