System for electrochemical decomposition of compounds (I) uses a mediator (II) containing no metal or heavy metal and NOTLESS 2 electrodes for electrochemical activation of (II). Also claimed is the electrochemical decomposition method using (II) with electrochemical activation.

System zur elektrochemischen Spaltung von Verbindungen, insbesondere aus der Gruppe ligninhaltiger Verbindungen und Farbstoffe, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es einen Mediator, der keine Metalle oder Schwermetalle enthält sowie mindestens zwei Elektroden zur elektrochemischen Aktivierung des Mediators umfaßt. Der Mediator ist z.B. aus der Gruppe der aliphatischen, cycloaliphatischen, heterocyclischen oder aromatischen NO-, NOH- oder <IMAGE> Verbindungen, wie 1-Methylviolursäure, 1,3-Dimethylviolursäure, Thioviolursäure, Alloxan-4,5-dioxim und Alloxan-5-oxim Hydrat (Violursäure), ausgewählt.
