Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0883097A2] The system passes an analogue signal current varying between two limits over the cable. The current represents a measurement value detected by a sensor (16) and forms the supply current required for the operation of the transmitter (10), which contains a circuit which derives a constant operating voltage. A controllable current source (32) determines the current flowing over the two-wire cable (14) depending on the measurement value. The circuit generating the transmitter operating voltage is a switching regulator (36). The output voltage from a voltage source (34) in the transmitter varies in opposition to the signal current and forms the input voltage to the downward switching regulator.
