Abstract (en)
The machine comprises of a cylindrical shell (2) with a forward cutting head (10) formed by a rotary circular late with apertures bounded by radial arms carrying tools (15). A fixed vertical partition (11) behind the cutting head forms a mixing chamber (12) for the excavated material and an additional product which is removed by a screw conveyor (7). The lower part of the mixing chamber contains a detector (25) for the pressure of the material inside the chamber, linked to a conveyor screw and/or cutting head speed controller. The detector comprises a stress gauge inside a metal housing set inside the mixing chamber close to the aperture containing the end of the screw conveyor.
