[origin: DE19608791A1] The production of fluorinated aromatic compounds of general formula (I), in which W, X, Z, R1 and R2 have the meanings given in the description, from corresponding C1 or Br-containing compounds with fluorides, e.g. KF, with halogen exchange in a reaction medium, is known. According to the invention, the "halex" reaction (exchange of a halogen for fluorine) is performed in a reaction medium containing compounds of general formula (III), (IV) and/or (V) in which R<16> to R<24> have the meaning given in the description. This provides a particularly advantageous process in which gentler conditions may be applied while providing higher output and fewer by-products. Fluorinated aromatic compounds of formula (I), e.g. are used as intermediate products for active agent synthesis.
