Abstract (en)

A thermal dye transfer element comprises (i) a dye donor element comprising a support having a dye layer, the dye layer comprises a dye dispersed in a polymeric binder, the dye is a deprotonated cationic dye which can be reprotonated to a cationic dye having a N-H group which is part of a conjugated system; and (ii) a dye receiving element comprising a support having a polymeric dye image receiving layer, the element is in a superposed relationship with the dye donor element, so that the dye layer is in contact with the polymeric dye image receiving layer, the polymeric dye image receiving layer comprises (a) a polymer with a Tg below 19[deg]C and no or slight acidity; and (b) a water soluble multifunctional carboxylic acid containing at least two carboxylic acids. Also claimed is a process of forming a dye transfer image, which comprises image-wise heating a dye donor element.
