[origin: EP0886247A2] The method involves using an inductive sensor arrangement which comprises a primary coil and a secondary coil, whose field is traversed by a coin. The primary coil is supplied with a periodical transmitter signal which contains preferably harmonics, and an evaluation circuit evaluates the signals of the secondary coil to produce an acceptance- or rejection signal. A periodically recurring section of the transmitter signal is associated with an amount of switching steps, envelope curves are formed from the values of the reception signal of secondary coil at the respective recurring switching steps, and the evaluation circuit forms at least one criterion for the acceptance- or rejection signal from the amount of contemporaneously produced envelope curves.
