Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0887854A1] Production of a microelectronic component structure in a difficultly etched semiconductor material is carried out by (a) attaching a thin film (12) of the semiconductor material to the front face (3) of a support substrate (1) of easily etched material; (b) forming the microelectronic component (20) in the thin film (12); and then (c) etching and metallising a via (33) for electrically connecting an electrode (18) on the back face of the support substrate to an electrode (24) of the microelectronic component (20). Preferably, step (a) is effected by the 'smart cut' method. Also claimed is structure produced by the above process, in which the difficultly etched semiconductor material is preferably silicon carbide and/or gallium nitride and the easily etched semiconductor material is silicon, quartz, alumina, sapphire or gallium arsenide.
