[origin: EP0889447A2] The sensor has at least two optical transmitters (10,12) powered by a current source, and at least one optical receiver (40,42). The latter is connected to electronic reception and interrogation circuitry. The optical transmitters (10,12) can each be connected via a respective electronic switch (24,26) to an electrical energy store (14,16). The electronic switches (24,26) are actuated by control pulses of a microcomputer. The energy stores (14,16) are connected such that they are charged between control pulses. The transmitters (10,12) with electronic switches (24,26) and energy stores (14,16) are arranged such that one electronic switch is actuated on the rising edge of a control pulse and the other switch is actuated on the falling edge.
