[origin: WO9731631A1] The present invention concerns a method of substantially preventing or reducing at least one of the changes in the female reproductive system associated with the onset or continuation of labour, the method comprising administering to the female an effective amount of a compound which selectively inhibits cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) function. Also provided is a method of substantially preventing or reducing uterine contractility either occurring during pregnancy or associated with menorrhagia. The method comprising administering to the female an effective amount of a compound which selectively inhibits cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) function. Preferably the compound is nimesulide, flosulide or meloxicam and can be used in combination with a progestogen, a progestin or a progestational agent.
