[origin: DE19612102A1] The invention relates to packaging having a top and/or bottom surface obtainable by folding and comprising a front and a rear end section and two side face sections (3, 3') connected thereto by connecting edges (4, 4'). Said packaging may, in particular be a gusset bag (1). According to the invention, the end regions of the front and rear wall (2, 12) of the packaging are provided with a recess (7, 7') or a slot (51). In its final folded stage, said packaging therefore has overlapping end regions of the side surface sections (3, 3'), and together they form the top or bottom surface of the packaging. When closed, the packaging has a five-layered central region instead of a single-layered region as in known gusset-bag packaging in which side face sections form only part of the top or bottom surface.
