[origin: WO9735826A1] A method for preparing carboxylic acids and/or esters thereof including n carbon atoms by carrying out an isomerisation reaction to isomerise a formic acid ester and an alcohol having n-1 carbon atoms, where n is at least 3. The method is carried out in the presence of at least one formic acid ester, water, a solvent and a catalytic system including at least one halogenated promoter and at least one iridium compound. According to the method, a partial carbon monoxide pressure of 0.1.10<5> Pa to 25.10<5> Pa is maintained during the reaction, and the amount of formic acid ester is maintained at less than 20 wt % based on the weight of the reaction mixture.
