[origin: DE19613012C1] Power-line current and voltage transformers (2,3) deliver outputs to a digitiser (1) connected by a data bus (4) to an impedance-forming computer (5). The parameters of the impedance characteristic are adjusted (6) for the generation of normalised resistances (RL1-RL3) and reactances (XL1-XL3) which are supplied to the neural net (9). The training employs these impedance values for simulation of faulty loops. The neural net produces fault classification signals (F1,F2) on an output data bus (16) connected e.g. to distance protection equipment.
