Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9739936A1] A modular chassis (10) for a front engine rear drive motor vehicle is described which comprises as structural components a front structural member (A) attached rigidly and detachably to a tubular structural member (B) which is attached rigidly and detachably to a rear structural member (C) wherein the front structural member (A) comprises a structural member (A2) providing attachment points (30) for front suspension members (8) and an engine and supports the torsional, lateral and longitudinal loads created between the front suspension members (8) and the tubular structural member (B). The tubular structural member (B) is longitudinally disposed on the center line of the vehicle (10) between the front structural member (A) and the rear structural member (C) and supports the majority of the torsional, lateral and longitudinal loads created between the front and rear structural members (A and C). The rear structural member (C) comprises a structural member (C) providing attachment points for rear suspension members (9) and a transmission (4) and supports the torsional, lateral and longitudinal loads created between the rear suspension members (C) and the tubular member (B).
