[origin: WO9733793A1] The invention concerns a support disc (1) for supporting a lid during clinching of non-circular tin cans. The disc can be centrally driven, is based on a substantially cylindrical form and provided at its circular circumference (3) with at least one support element (4, 4', 4'') whose contoured base (8, 8', 8'') takes the form of a segment of a cylinder circumference and adapted to the shape of the lid (20a, 20b) to be fitted in such a way that during clinching a single support element constantly braces the lid core over a strip (46, 47) of its surface sufficiently large to effectively intercept any vertical forces acting on the lid from inside.
